Getting to know the festival sensation

We’ve just had the first staff meeting in the theatre Draken and it is very hard to imagine how there was room for all of us in the office kitchen just last week!

The festival is closing in quickly on us now and the sensation involves all senses. The ones that I figured were five – with an added one for persons in close contact with spirits and stuff. But what do you know – Wikipedia tells us otherwise. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sense)

To get a grip of the festival at this point you just need the regular five though:

SMELL: imagine the smell inside of Draken (security/velvet/dust/anticipation) and the one in the office (stress/yesterday’s lunch/coffee/cardboard) – combine the two and realise what lures festival workers back year after year. It’s like a drug!

SIGHT: the festival worker develops a special form of selective vision (some more than others which might lead to a certain amount of confrontation within the flock) – blind for used coffee-mugs and piles of junk but very observant of significant details such as hidden meaning in e-mails and film formats.

HEARING: much as with sight the festival worker hears only a bare minimum. This is a life preserving habit which blocks out phones ringing off their hooks and co-workers blabbering on about matters with no concern to one’s own work. Fully trained the mature festival worker might detect the crisp sound of a Melitta-filter being unfolded in the kitchen through any background noise – immediately running towards it. Champagne-corks are for beginners!

TASTE: Be it food, clothes, music or anything – the festival worker has GOOD taste!!

TOUCH: Here is where the individuality in the festival worker surfaces. Some can’t stand being hugged – others crave for a bit of human touch. You just have to figure out for yourself what works.
